Parent Volunteering
Macomb Montessori Academy believes strongly in parent participation, so we have parent volunteers in the school on a daily basis. A background check is performed on all volunteers, no matter the activity. Volunteers are always welcome to come in and help in the classrooms. Teachers do ask that 24 hours notice is given before doing so.
Chaperone & Volunteer Background (ICHAT) Request
If you have been approved to chaperone an event, you will need to complete the ICHAT form. Please contact your building's Administrative Assistant for access to the form.
MMA in an effort to ensure the safety and security of its students, is continuing our safety procedure for field trip chaperones and volunteers.
It is necessary for all parents/guardians who will be chaperoning field trips or volunteering in a classroom to provide information for a criminal conviction/background check. This information will be sent to the main office ( Office Manager) and checked through the ICHAT (Internet Criminal History Access Tool) database.
It is only the Department of Human Resources that is authorized to access the ICHAT database on behalf of the school district. Your child's school will be able to access a list of parents that are eligible to act as chaperones and volunteers for that school. Except where disclosure is required by law, the list of approved chaperones and volunteers will be shared only with staff on a 'need to know' basis and will be kept only for the current school year.
Parents may elect not to be screened. Please note that if you are not screened you will not be able to chaperone or drive any children other than your own on field trips.
