Our Story

Macomb Montessori Academy is a tuition-free kindergarten through sixth-grade public school.

Here, you can expect a school where children’s natural desire to learn is celebrated, where moving at their own pace is encouraged, and their unique learning style is embraced.

Our multi-age classrooms are lead by State and Montessori Certified Teachers that guide students through long blocks of uninterrupted work time. We are dedicated to working together in supporting, nurturing and guiding our students to their brightest future. The Montessori Method allows for individualized learning for all aged children.

VISION

Macomb Montessori Academy will be a recognized model of Montessori learning and a thriving, diverse community that respects students, inspires teachers, supports families and enhances the community. Enriched through this model, our children will be academically, socially, and emotionally ready to take their place in our world.

MISSION

Macomb Montessori Academy is a diverse educational community built on the Montessori philosophy that fosters curiosity, creativity, and critical thinking in its students. The Academy will foster an environment that meets students’ individual needs to pursue academic excellence, become life-long learners, and responsible global citizens.

CORE VALUES

  • Community: A group of trusted people coming together to benefit and serve one another.
  • Lead: The willingness to lead with integrity and push each other to persevere and endure toward success.
  • Love: Love is demonstrating intentional selfless care for others, treating them with kindness and respect, and being thankful for all things.
  • Whole-child approach: The whole child approach allows children to be seen and safe, and gives them the opportunity to be challenged and express themselves socially and emotionally.
  • Passion: A strong desire to achieve one’s goals.

Authorizer

Lake Superior State University (LSSU) is the authorizer for Macomb Montessori Academy. As the authorizer, LSSU provides oversight of the charter contract and ensures compliance with state and federal regulations. LSSU appoints the Board of Directors and provides training sessions for the Board.

LSSU believes in providing high quality and diverse educational opportunities for all of their charter school students.  They feel the well being and interests of students are fundamental. These interests include academic achievement, a safe environment that fosters a culture of mutual respect and dignity, and access to information about the quality of education provided by our charter schools.

Choice Schools Associates & Montessori

What do Thomas Edison, Alexander Graham Bell, Princess Diana, and Bill and Hillary Clinton have in common? They were all Montessori parents.

What do the founders of Google, Sergey Brin and Larry Page, the founder of Amazon, Jeffrey Bezos, Jacqueline Kennedy, and Julia Child have in common? They were all Montessori students.

Curiosity, creativity, and passion for life long learning are all hallmarks of the Montessori Method, where children are encouraged to ask questions, explore their interests, and develop mastery through hands-on experience.

Our Education Service Provider Partnership

Macomb Montessori Academy excels, in great part, because of its managing partner, Choice Schools Associates. Choice is a family-owned, Michigan-based, education service provider with a team that is passionate about all things Montessori. Choice partners with charter school founders who desire to provide better educational options for children throughout the State of Michigan. They not only specialize in public Montessori charter school education, but also work with groups that are eager to provide specialized academic choices that are tailored to serve their own community.

For over two decades, Choice has carried out its mission to partner with school communities, empowering and equipping them to fulfill their unique mission. To date, they have been able to guide numerous different groups of founders through the charter school start-up and operation process, resulting in six unique public Montessori schools, two environmentally focused schools, seven traditional academies and one child development center.

Over the years, Choice has developed a solid curriculum that links their schools in the Montessori philosophy, but celebrates each communities uniqueness. Choice believes the Montessori education is one of the greatest gifts children can receive. Our teachers combine both Montessori and Michigan Department of Education school standards. These dual responsibilities help ensure that your child is receiving the best education they possibly can. The mixed-age classes enable students to learn and develop at their own pace and develop their role among peers. Please explore for yourself why Montessori works!
